The Buyer will work under the direction of the Purchasing Manager, focusing on transactional processing within the procurement department. This role involves handling purchase orders, maintaining vendor relationships, ensuring timely delivery of goods, and supporting the overall purchasing function through administrative and operational tasks.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Create and process purchase orders in a timely manner.
  • Verify purchase requisitions and ensure proper documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to clarify order details and requirements.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding order status, delivery status, and discrepancies.
  • Resolve any issues related to vendor performance or order fulfillment.
  • Maintain and update vendor information records in the ERP.
  • Work with onsite plant personnel to monitor physical raw material levels against ERP records.
  • Work with maintenance department on spare parts inventory and ad hoc repair spend.
  • Work with maintenance department to develop list of repeating, consumable materials.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed.

Position will primarily be located at the Corporate Office in Minneapolis, MN. There is also an expectation of periodic travel to the specific manufacturing sites in the Northern – Midwest States.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in technical purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management.
  • Experience in an industry-relevant field such as manufacturing, engineering, or automotive.
  • Proven experience in contract negotiation and supplier relationship management.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings, specifications, and bill of materials (BOM).
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and procurement software.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with quality control standards and processes.

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to travel to supplier sites as needed.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of global sourcing practices and international trade regulations is a plus.
